I’ve known the value of ambitions since childhood and have always had a steady focus on my goal of becoming a Computer Engineer. However, given the financial limitations in my family, I won’t deny that I sometimes have had doubts about my own aspirations. This got me thinking about how I could help my father so he may not have to worry about funding my studies. Through online search, I came to know about Keep India Smiling Foundational Scholarship Programme, applied for it and ended up receiving an amount of INR 20,000 for my Class 11 studies. Moreover, I plan to use the sum to get coaching for JEE Mains so that I can crack the competitive exam in the first try.

I was always determined to study further and serve in the healthcare industry even when higher education seemed unrealistic. Uncertain about my future, I applied and secured a place at Manipal College of Health Professions, but my yearly fees were INR 1,54,000! I took a loan from my church to pay the first instalment and started looking for any help I could find. In some blessed moment, I came applied for the coveted Dr BR & CR Shetty Scholarship for Academic Excellence. When I was told that I have been selected for the scholarship and will be getting INR 60,000, I couldn’t believe my ears. The realisation that somebody cares enough and believes in the dreams of others was overwhelming and life-changing.

I was fairly inquisitive about numbers while growing up. My interest only grew with time, and my ambitions always superseded my financial limitations. All I needed was a push to develop my personality and encash my interests. For me, that helping hand came in the form of HCL Foundation’s My Scholar Program, which supports the education of meritorious and talented children of HCL support staff and HCL Uday communities. Ever since my selection in the program in 2017, I have not only received scholarship, but also regular career counselling, mentoring, holistic development and personality development sessions.

Two years back, my father suffered from severe gangrene which cost him his legs. Having a younger brother who was born with polio only adds to his responsibilities. To overcome this situation, I decided to get a college education so that I could help my family in the long term. After taking admission in a local government college, I was finding it extremely difficult to pay the college fee of Rs. 16,000 per annum. While looking for ways to overcome the acrimonious situation, I got to know about the HDFC Bank Educational Crisis Scholarship Support 2019. The application process was convenient. In just a few weeks, I received a call from HDFC Bank for a short interview and later received a scholarship amount of Rs. 16,000! Needless to say, this amount brought tremendous relief to me and my family. I have been able to fund my college expenses and take control of my life.

My family of four survives on bare minimum resources. It has been like this for so long that we had forgotten to aspire for more! However, I’ve somehow nurtured the dream of becoming a successful banker since years. All I needed was a little push financially. Luckily, I came to know about the Fullerton India Scholarship Programme that supports the education of Class 9 to 12 students from Guwahati, Jorhat and Dibrugarh. I followed the online application process and submitted the application. I have no words to explain the joy I felt when I came to know that I have received a scholarship amount of Rs. 10,000. This was really a big achievement for me and my family.
