My Story, in Monika's words

My name is Monika, and I live in Nangli, Delhi. I am deaf. I have completed Class 12 and am now studying in college.

I learned many skills at NDS and studied the Diploma in Teaching Indian Sign Language (DTISL) for two years. Sign language opened up learning for me, and I want to do the same for other deaf children.

There are five of us at home: my mother, my father, my two sisters and me. My parents are not working right now, and one of my sisters has a job. I have also just found work, but it is not permanent yet.

For a deaf person, much of work and study happens on a screen: email, typed messages, presentations and documents. My goal is to get a laptop so I can get better at PowerPoint, email, typing and MS Office, and be ready for a career.

I also want to learn how to make tests in Excel and use them to help deaf children learn and practise. I know how they learn, because I have learned the same way.
