Help Nidhi, a farmer's daughter, reach the courtrooms of India
My Story — in Nidhi's words
My name is Nidhi, and I am a second-year BA LLB (Hons.) student at Aligarh Muslim University. My dream is to become an Advocate on Record — one of the highest standings a lawyer can hold in India — and one day serve justice to those who need it most.
I come from Sasni, a small town in Uttar Pradesh. My father tills a modest farm in the nearby village of Patua Nagla, growing wheat and maize. From it he earns roughly ₹1 lakh a year — the only income for a household of six that includes my parents, my grandparents, my younger brother now in Class 10, and me.
Every single day, I travel nearly 50 kilometres to and from Aligarh to attend my classes. The commute costs close to ₹5,000 a month, and it swallows the very hours I could otherwise spend in the university library. To ease the burden on my family, I have taken up tuition classes for younger students — turning my own struggle into a little support for those at home.
What I dream of is moving into the AMU hostel. It would end my exhausting commute, give me back my study hours, and finally let me make full use of the library and campus life. I have worked hard to earn my place here — 87% in Class 10, 91.2% in Class 12, and a 7.6 CGPA in my first year. I only want the chance to make the most of it.
I am asking for support to pay my annual tuition fee and secure a place in the AMU hostel — the two things standing between me and an uninterrupted education.
