The Inspiration Behind the Initiative
Some legacies are not measured by wealth or position, but by the values people leave behind and the lives they touch.
The R. Gopalakrishnan & Shantha Gopal EDUCATION CARE Foundation is a heartfelt tribute to two parents whose lives embodied education, dedication, simplicity and commitment to family.
Established and founded in their loving memory by their son, Anand Gopal the initiative seeks to carry forward their legacy by helping deserving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds pursue their educational aspirations.
The belief behind this initiative is simple: every deserving student should have an opportunity to learn, grow and build a better future, irrespective of their financial circumstances.
Shri R. Gopalakrishnan
A Life Dedicated to Engineering and Public Service
Shri R. Gopalakrishnan was a distinguished engineering professional who served as Chief Engineer in the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, he represented the importance of education, professional commitment and a life grounded in values.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a beloved father whose presence, guidance and influence shaped his family's life.
To his children, he was far more than a father. He was their lifetime hero.
His life inspires this initiative to help young people access educational opportunities and realise their potential.
Smt. Shantha Gopal
A Mother by heart and Calling
Smt. Shantha Gopal was a Physics graduate of Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai, and a former schoolteacher.
Her life reflected the quiet power of education and the profound influence a teacher and mother can have on young minds.
She devoted herself to nurturing and educating her family, placing their growth and well-being at the centre of her life more than her own basic needs
Her legacy reminds us that education is not merely about acquiring qualifications. It is about building character, nurturing potential and giving the next generation the confidence to pursue its dreams.
Through this initiative, her love for education and her dedication to nurturing young lives will continue to inspire future generations.
Our Mission
The mission of the R. Gopalakrishnan & Shantha Gopal Education Care Foundation is to support deserving students who face financial barriers to higher education.
The initiative aspires to:
- Provide educational scholarships to meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Extend opportunities to deserving orphaned students and others who lack adequate family or financial support.
- Encourage students to pursue engineering, science and other fields of higher education.
- Bring together individuals, professionals, alumni and organisations and every single individual who believe that financial hardship should not prevent a student from achieving their potential.
- Build a lasting educational legacy in memory of two parents who valued education and the future of their family.
Our Vision
We envision a future in which deserving students are not forced to abandon their dreams because of financial difficulties.
Through scholarships, collective contributions and partnerships with organisations committed to education, we hope to create opportunities that enable students to continue their studies with dignity and confidence.
Every scholarship awarded will represent more than financial assistance. It will represent hope, encouragement and an opportunity to build a better future.
Carrying Their Legacy Forward
This initiative is deeply personal.
It is a son's tribute to the two people who shaped his life: a father who built his career through engineering and public service, and a mother who combined her educational background with a lifetime of nurturing and teaching.
Although they are no longer physically present, their values can continue to live through the education and achievements of young students.
By helping one student at a time, this initiative hopes to transform personal remembrance into meaningful social contribution.
The aspiration is to create a sustainable foundation programme that grows through the generosity of sponsors, friends, colleagues, alumni and well-wishers who share this belief.
An Invitation to Be Part of Their Legacy
We invite every individual, institutions, alumni networks and socially responsible organisations to join us in supporting deserving students.
Every contribution, regardless of size, can help advance the cause of education and give a student an opportunity to move forward.
Together, we can ensure that the lives and values of Shri R. Gopalakrishnan and Smt. Shantha Gopal continue to inspire generations.
Two loving parents. One enduring legacy. Countless possibilities for the future.
In loving memory of Shri R. Gopalakrishnan and Smt. Shantha Gopal.

Under FCRA rules, what matters is your citizenship, not your country of residence. If you hold an Indian passport, your donation is treated as a domestic (Indian) contribution, even if you currently live abroad. If you hold a foreign passport (including OCI cardholders), your donation is classified as a foreign contribution and processed through our FCRA-compliant route. This is why your passport details are essential—they determine the correct regulatory channel for your donation.
As per the latest FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) guidelines issued by the Government of India, foreign contributors are required to provide identification details, including passport number, when making a donation. This information is mandatory for regulatory compliance and helps ensure your contribution is processed lawfully and transparently.
