How do you know your donation reaches a student who really needs it? A step-by-step look at how Kind Circle finds, checks and selects every scholar.
"How do I know my money is going to a student who really needs it?" It is the most important question a donor can ask, and it deserves a clear answer. At Kind Circle, no scholarship is paid until the student has been carefully checked. Here is how that process works.
Why verification matters
Every year, thousands of students apply for scholarships. Most are genuine, but needs vary widely, and documents can be incomplete or unclear. Careful verification makes sure that:
- Support goes to students who are both deserving and in real financial need
- Donors can give with confidence
- Students are selected fairly, without favour
Step 1: Finding the right students
Kind Circle is backed by Buddy4Study, which has close to 4.5 million registered students. When a scholarship opens, it reaches students through Buddy4Study's network. Students can also be nominated by donors, teachers or community members who know them. Every nominated student goes through the same checks as everyone else.
Step 2: Checking eligibility
Each scholarship has its own rules – for example, the class or course, minimum marks and a family income limit. Applications are first screened against these rules so that only eligible students move forward.
Step 3: Document verification
Shortlisted students submit documents that back up their application. These typically include:
- Mark sheets from previous exams
- Proof of admission or current enrolment
- Family income proof
- Identity proof
- Fee receipts or fee structure from the institution
- Where relevant, documents such as a parent's death certificate or a disability certificate
Each document is checked for completeness, consistency and authenticity.
Step 4: Understanding the student's need
Numbers on paper do not tell the whole story. Students are often interviewed by phone or video to understand their family situation, their goals and exactly what support they need. For some programmes, on-ground or physical verification is also carried out.
Step 5: Review and approval by the donor
Once a student's profile is verified, it is shared with the circle's donor or lead – called the Karta – for review. The final decision on who receives the scholarship stays with the donor. Personal details are shared only as needed, to protect the student's privacy.
Step 6: Payment to the student or institution
After approval, the scholarship is paid directly into the student's bank account or to their school or college, depending on how the scholarship is designed. Every payment is recorded on the circle's page so donors can see exactly where the money went. Read more about where your donation goes.
Step 7: Following up
Verification does not stop at selection. Scholars are tracked through the year, and many scholarships are renewed only if the student continues to study and meets the required marks. If a scholar drops out or becomes ineligible, the unused amount returns to the circle and can support another student.
Protecting students, too
Verification protects donors, but it also protects students. Kind Circle follows a child protection policy and keeps students' personal information confidential. Donors can meet or speak with their scholars if they wish, in a safe and structured way.
What this means for you as a donor
- Every student you support has been checked
- You make the final choice
- Your money goes directly towards education
- You can follow each scholar's progress
It is why families, companies and alumni groups trust Kind Circle with their scholarships – from the GEV Memorial Kind Circle to the Auxilo Edevate Kind Circle.
Why we take the extra time
Careful verification takes time, and sometimes donors are eager to see their scholarship awarded quickly. But taking a little longer at the start means that support reaches the students who need it most, and that donors never have to wonder whether their trust was well placed. It also means support is matched to what each student actually needs.
Over the years, this careful approach has helped Kind Circle support more than 400 students through circles run by families, companies, alumni groups and communities.
