Turn your next reunion into something lasting. A step-by-step guide for batches to start a scholarship for students at their old college or school.
Reunions are full of laughter, old stories and the same question: "Where did the years go?" But every year, a few batches turn their reunion into something that lasts far beyond the weekend. They start a batch scholarship – a scholarship in the name of their graduating class, funding students at their old college or school. Here is how your batch can do the same.
Why a batch scholarship?
- It gives the reunion a purpose. Beyond nostalgia, the batch creates something meaningful together.
- Small amounts add up. If 60 classmates each give ₹5,000, that is ₹3 lakh – enough to support several students.
- It keeps the batch connected. Updates about scholars give everyone a reason to stay in touch between reunions.
- It gives back to where it all began. Many of you remember classmates who struggled with fees. Now you can help today's students.
Step 1: Form a small core team
Three to five committed batchmates are enough. One person leads as the Karta of the circle, and others can help as co-administrators. Try to include people in India and abroad, so everyone feels represented.
Step 2: Agree on the purpose
Decide together who you want to support. Popular choices:
- Current students of your college or school who need financial help
- Students in your branch or department
- Girls, first-generation learners or students who have lost a parent
- Children of batchmates or staff members who have passed away
- A memorial scholarship for a favourite teacher – read how to honour a teacher with a scholarship
Step 3: Set up your circle on Kind Circle
On Kind Circle, your batch gets its own named page – for example, "Class of 2001 Scholarship" – with your story, your purpose and a live record of funds raised and scholars supported. You do not need to register a trust or alumni association. Your circle runs under Buddy4Study India Foundation, which handles receipts, compliance, verification and payments. Share your interest here to begin.
Step 4: Launch it at the reunion
- Announce the scholarship during the reunion, with a short talk about why it matters.
- Share a QR code or link to the circle page on screen and on the batch WhatsApp group.
- Ask a respected teacher or batchmate to make the first gift.
- Set a simple goal – for example, "fund five scholars this year".
Step 5: Select scholars
Students apply through Buddy4Study and can also be nominated by teachers or batchmates. Every student is verified before selection, and your core team approves the final scholars. Read how verification works.
Step 6: Keep the batch updated
Share scholar updates on the batch group a few times a year. A short message about how a scholar is doing – or a thank-you note from them – keeps classmates engaged and makes giving again next year easy.
Ideas to keep the momentum going
- Annual reunion appeal – a fresh call for gifts every year.
- Birthday giving – batchmates give on their birthdays. See birthday giving ideas.
- Monthly giving – small monthly amounts provide steady support. Read one-time vs monthly giving.
- Milestone reunions – make the 10th, 25th or 50th reunion a big giving moment.
Batchmates abroad
Many batches are spread across the world. Batchmates with Indian passports can give as domestic donors; foreign citizens and OCI cardholders can give through the foundation's FCRA-compliant route; and US-based batchmates can get a US tax deduction through Pragati Foundation USA. Read our guide for NRI and international donors.
Alumni already doing this
Alumni communities such as the IMT Ghaziabad Alumni Kind Circle and the DMET-MERI Alumni Kind Circle are already using Kind Circle to give together. Read more about alumni giving.
Keep it simple
The batches that succeed are usually the ones that keep things simple. One clear purpose, one page, one link shared again and again. You do not need a committee, a constitution or a bank account – the Kind Circle team takes care of the administration so your batch can focus on what it does best: staying connected and rallying together.
And once the first scholar sends a thank-you note to your batch group, you will see how quickly a reunion idea becomes a tradition.
