Honouring Dr. Goolam E. Vahanvati, the 13th Attorney General for India, this scholarship offers ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 a year to aspiring law students from underprivileged backgrounds.
Some of India's finest legal minds came from modest beginnings. Yet every year, many bright young people who dream of becoming lawyers give up – not for lack of ability, but because the fees at good law schools are far beyond what their families can afford. The GEV Memorial Merit Scholarship for Law Students exists to change that.
Remembering Dr. Goolam E. Vahanvati
Dr. Goolam Essaji Vahanvati was a senior counsel who served as the 13th Attorney General for India. He began his practice at the Bombay High Court and went on to serve as Advocate General of Maharashtra and Solicitor General of India before becoming Attorney General. Over a long and distinguished career, he became one of the most respected figures in Indian law.
The GEV Memorial Kind Circle carries his legacy forward by helping aspiring law students from underprivileged backgrounds study at reputed law schools across India.
The impact so far
Since 2019, the GEV Memorial Kind Circle has:
- Supported more than 70 law scholars across India
- Raised over ₹1 crore for legal education
- Helped students from modest backgrounds study at reputed law institutions
Scholarships continue in later years based on academic performance, so students can focus on their studies through the length of their course.

Scholarship amount
Selected scholars receive between ₹50,000 and ₹2,00,000 per year for the 2026-27 cycle. The scholarship helps students meet the cost of their legal education.
More than money: mentorship
What makes this scholarship special is its focus on mentorship. Scholars take part in annual mentorship programmes. For a young law student from a modest background, guidance on internships, moots, career choices and the realities of practice can be as valuable as the scholarship itself.

How the selection works
The scholarship is run on Kind Circle, Buddy4Study India Foundation's platform for named scholarships. The circle's donors review and approve the final list of scholars.
