A senior executive who taught before dawn and a lifelong learner who believed no knowledge goes to waste. Their children honour them with a scholarship of up to ₹1,00,000.
Some people teach because it is their job. Others teach because they cannot imagine keeping knowledge to themselves. KVS and Geetha were the second kind. Today, their children have created the KVS & Geetha Scholarship Kind Circle so that their parents' love of learning can keep reaching students across India.
KVS: a teacher before dawn
KVS was a senior executive with a busy career. Yet in his forties, he taught an MBA student at 6 o'clock every morning before going to work. In his fifties, he learned Sanskrit and taught it as a spoken language. For years, he spent his weekends teaching the Vedas.
He never charged for any of it. He believed knowledge should be shared freely with anyone who wanted to learn – regardless of gender, caste or economic status. In this, he followed the example of his own father, Pattamadai Sri Krishna Vadhyar.
Geetha: a lifelong learner
Geetha was a Chemistry graduate and a learner all her life. She taught the Devi Mahatmyam to a group of more than 40 women. Even near the end of her life, she was in the second year of a four-year Vedanta course, taking notes from audio lectures while in hospital.
Her belief was simple: "No knowledge will ever go to waste."
A home built around education
Both KVS and Geetha came from villages in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu. They met in 1976. KVS completed his MBA after their marriage, after their first child was born. From 1981, they made their home in Coimbatore.
Education was at the heart of their family. They supported the schooling of relatives, and of the children of the people who worked in their home, including their drivers. To them, helping a child learn was simply the right thing to do.
The scholarship in their name
To honour their parents, their children set up the KVS & Geetha Scholarship Kind Circle on Kind Circle. It reflects the couple's belief that learning should be open to all, at every stage of life.

Why this scholarship is special
Most scholarships focus on one level – school, or college. The KVS & Geetha Scholarship spans from Class 6 all the way to postgraduate studies. That mirrors the couple's own lives: they never stopped learning, and they never stopped teaching, at any age.
It is also a fine example of how families living in different places, including abroad, can come together on Kind Circle to honour their parents in a meaningful, lasting way.
What this scholarship can mean for a student
Imagine a Class 11 student who scores over 90% but whose father drives an auto-rickshaw. Or a postgraduate student who lost her mother and is paying her own fees through tuitions. For students like these, a scholarship of up to ₹1,00,000 can cover fees, books or a laptop – and, just as importantly, tell them that someone believes their learning matters.
That is exactly what KVS and Geetha did all their lives: they made learning possible for people around them, quietly and without asking for anything in return.
How you can be part of it
- Contribute to the KVS & Geetha Scholarship Kind Circle
- Share it with students who score well but struggle to pay for their education
- Nominate a deserving student you know

Honour your own teachers
Was there a parent, grandparent or teacher whose belief in learning shaped your life? You can honour them the same way. Read our guides on how to start a memorial scholarship in India and how to start one on Kind Circle, step by step, or write to kind@buddy4study.com.
As Geetha believed, no knowledge will ever go to waste – and neither will a scholarship given in that spirit.
